We are two sisters on a mission to demystify science with humor and relevance by creating videos, GIFs, comics, and resources. Our content is focused on high school biology (Pinky is a former high school biology teacher), though we do receive comments that some of our content is useful for intro biology courses at the college level as well. We're for anyone wanting to learn biology!
We frequently remind viewers that we cannot include all of the fascinating exceptions and details in a video under 10 minutes. We like to create memorable visuals to the content, but they're not scientific illustrations. Meaning, nitrogen and carbon don't tap dance. Our illustrated cell and molecule cartoons are definitely not to scale. DNA is usually a right-handed double helix (well...there are exceptions) and it doesn't have eyes...a face...or a top hat...

No. Survival of the adequate enough to reproduce until the environment might provide a niche suited to their phenotypes. Without this populations would near instantly lose most of their diversity.
Hi there! Our video is on genetic drift, where a random chance event (such as natural disaster) can impact the allele frequencies in a population. Our genetic drift video doesn't go into natural selection much except when it gives a comparison for how genetic drift is not like natural selection. Our genetic drift video states that for natural selection, "organisms that have traits that result in high fitness [defining fitness as reproductive fitness, able to reproduce offspring] are able to pass those alleles down to their offspring." That doesn't intend to imply that no other organisms reproduce; it is only meaning that fitness is associated with being able to pass down alleles to offspring as reproductive fitness is a major component of natural selection. This is very different from genetic drift that can result from a random chance event. We do think though that your point does show how the phrase "survival of the fittest" often used with natural selection could lead to misconceptions, especially if there is a misconception about what is meant by "fit" in biology. It also could be an issue because, as Berkeley mentions here evolution.berkeley.edu/teach-evolution/misconceptions-about-evolution/#b6 , while it is a common phrase in natural selection, it would be more accurate to say "survival of the *fit enough* " We do have a separate video on natural selection. The video you linked in your comment is going into different natural selection curves which is a great way to show differential reproductive success. Thanks again for your comment!
